Setting up the SEA of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games Implementation Programme
The environmental assessment of the Games Implementation Program presents complexity from a procedural point of view (affecting the territory of the Lombardy Region, the Veneto Region and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano) and from a methodological point of view (concerning a major event that can have repercussions on various sustainability objectives at both a local and a wider area level).
Poliedra’s contribution to setting up the Strategic Environmental Assessment mainly concerned technical support in:

• the dialog with the competent authorities in order to agree on a coordinated procedure and share the methodological approach;
• the formulation of the purpose of the Programme and the organization of its contents for the scoping phase;
• the drafting of a first version of the Preliminary Report containing: the assessment’s methodological approach with reference to the National Strategy for Sustainable Development;
• an analysis of the programmatic framework; a multiscale analysis of the context organized by cluster (Milan, Valtellina, Cortina, Val di Fiemme); a preliminary identification of the potential effects.
