An analysis of the logistics sector in the Piacenza area: relationships with the economy, society, the environment and the territory, and policy recommendations for local authorities

Poliedra contributed to a study commissioned by the Province of Piacenza: “An Investigation into Logistics in Piacenza: Impacts on the Economy, Society, Environment, and Territory, and Policy Guidelines for Local Authorities.” This baseline study explores a sector crucial to regional growth and was conducted by a multidisciplinary team including the ITL Foundation, Nomisma, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, and Politecnico di Milano.

Poliedra’s role centered on environmental impacts, focusing particularly on:

  • the loss of ecosystem services caused by land take

  • greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions from road transport

  • carbon emissions driven by the energy consumption of logistics facilities

Drawing from multi-dimensional analyses, the study outlines strategic guidelines to foster a more balanced development model. These guidelines center around five key pillars: operator and logistics supply chain selection, urban and regional planning, environmental sustainability improvements, social cost reduction, and local governance.

The methods and results of the study are described in the reports available on the Province’s website
