On Saturday 24 October, at Teatro della Quattordicesima in Milan, the public event “Towards the new M6. Visions, scenarios and experiences in dialogue” marked the launch, together with Ascolto Attivo and Leftloft, of “M6, are you in? Let’s talk about it”, the information, participation and listening process promoted by the Municipality of Milan on the future M6 metro line.
In front of a large audience, the morning provided an opportunity to present the objectives and stages of the process, explore the studies and scenarios developed so far to strengthen Milan’s metro network, and begin a dialogue with residents. Alongside the institutional contributions of Arianna Censi, Councillor for Mobility, and Gaia Romani, Councillor for Decentralisation, Neighbourhoods and Participation, the event featured Matteo Colleoni, Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Milano-Bicocca, as well as technical staff and experts from the Municipality of Milan, AMAT, MM and ATM. The discussion also broadened to include experiences from other cities and examples of circular and orbital metro lines, with a specific contribution focusing on the case of Naples.
The event also represented the first listening opportunity within the process: participants were able to raise questions and bring initial reflections on the future infrastructure to the attention of technical experts and the Municipal Administration.
The process will continue until March 2027, supporting the ongoing technical work through workshops with experts and stakeholders and outreach and listening activities across different areas of the city. The aim is to complement the technical framework already available with mobility needs, local knowledge, priorities, critical issues, opportunities and conditions for success emerging from dialogue with residents, city users and organised stakeholders.
