On 10 March 2026, from 11:00 to 12:00 CET, the OPTI-UP project will host an online public webinar (MS Teams) in English entitled “How Small and Medium Cities Can Build Smarter Public Transport Systems.”

Small and medium-sized cities across Central Europe are facing increasingly complex challenges when planning and managing public transport systems. Limited financial and human resources, fragmented data and rising sustainability expectations often make it difficult to design efficient and long-term mobility solutions.

This webinar will introduce the Comprehensive Strategy for Sustainable and Efficient Public Transport Networks in Central Europe, a newly developed and practical methodology created within the OPTI-UP project. The strategy is designed to support small and medium-sized cities in improving the way public transport systems are planned, monitored and optimised, through evidence-based decision-making, transport modelling and active stakeholder engagement.

During the session, participants will gain a clearer understanding of why a comprehensive public transport strategy is essential for cities of this size. The webinar will also explain how the OPTI-UP methodology helps structure the entire planning process, from initial analysis and action planning to performance monitoring through key indicators. Particular attention will be given to the role of modelling tools in supporting better, data-driven decisions, as well as to practical lessons learned from the pilot cities involved in the project.

The webinar is aimed at city planners, transport managers, policymakers and urban mobility professionals working in small and medium-sized cities who are interested in developing smarter and more sustainable public transport solutions. In addition to the presentations, participants will have the opportunity to engage with experts and exchange experiences with peers from across Central Europe.

Further information about the webinar, including registration details and access links, is available on the OPTI-UP project website. Additional updates on project activities and results can also be found on the official project page here.
