Poliedra participated in the 17th International Summer School of Economics “Smart City & AI – Student Edition” organised by the colleagues at the Faculty of Economics in Nis, Serbia. This year’s school was the last one held in partnership with the UR-DATA project.
More than 50 participants engaged in lectures, workshops, case studies, and cultural activities, with international lecturers and speakers ok key topics including smart technologies, sustainable transitions and urban futures.
For the Poliedra team, Claudia Romelli and Cristina Ragazzi led an interactive workshop titled System Thinking for Sustainability: DPSIR and Ecosystem Services Practice.
The workshop aimed at giving students tools to evaluate complex socio-ecological systems. It started with a lecture on interdisciplinary conceptual frameworks which aim at showcasing the relationships between human and enviornmental systems. For instance, system thinking and causal loop diagramming were introduced, followed by more detailed explanations of the DPSIR model.
Finally, Cristina Ragazzi introduced the concept of ecosystem services and its potential applications, as frontier for the practical implementation of integrated socio-ecological assessments and decision-making.
During the second part of the workshop, participants worked on 4 case studies and used the DPSIR model to structure selected environmental problems. All students worked with enthusiasm on their tasks and achieved successful results.
This event consolidates the collaboration created within the UR-DATA project over the past 3 years. As the project approaches its end, we look forward to the future collaborative research possibilities that have resulted.
